Today’s meeting at the American Red Cross classroom was called to order by President Christine Gum at 1:58pm. Quorum present.

Minutes from the March meeting were approved.

Treasurers’ Report- René Moore reported a balance of around $600. (After
calculating checks received today, $681.78.) No reimbursements can be
made till after Rose Sale.

Weeks Roses- Doug Hauschild has gotten feedback that some of the
Weeks roses aren’t doing well. Email him with name of rose and if it was
purchased or being “babysat” if you didn’t notify him at the meeting.

Website- Marjorie Iles reported our website is being updated and we have
a new website developer. The new site is much bolder, while being elegant
and cost effective. Cost $999 for development, $1,000 per year to
maintain. Site will go up in May and she will go over at a future meeting.

Red Cross Garden- Deb Wagner will be in the garden this Thursday, April
18 at 9:00am. Anyone is welcome to participate and learn about spraying.
(bring your own coffee!) Help needed in July- Doug, Martha Bader, and
Mark volunteered.

Maintenance guidelines will be posted on website.
Fertilizer survey- Mary Ann Willingham passed out results of fertilizer
survey.

Rose Sale- May 18, 10am-2pm at 59 Woodfin Place. We can start set up
the night before, there will be a guard through the night. Sign up sheet

(This is a great opportunity to chat with fellow rose enthusiasts and plant
lovers!)

Rose Exhibition- May 24 set up, May 25-26 exhibition at NC Arboretum.
Dianne Sneath gave an overview of the Exhibition for those who haven’t
participated at one. She encouraged everyone to bring roses from their
gardens and gave tips on how to display. Most of all, have fun!
ARS and NC Arboretum members enter the Arboretum for free with
membership card. If anyone not a member let Dianne know so she can
give your name to Security at Arboretum entrance.

June 9 meeting- Instead of our regular meeting at the Red Cross we will
have a tour of the Biltmore Rose Garden. The tour will be led by Stacey
Weir, horticulture manager.

Today’s meeting at the American Red Cross classroom was called to order at 2:15pm by Vice-President Dianne Sneath, alongside President Christine
Gum. (Meeting starting a little late today because of fertilizer order and Weeks roses pickup) Quorum present.

Doug Hauschild gave a “Spring Pruning Overview” with top tips for getting your spring pruning done efficiently. A guide from Portland Rose Society was handed out.

Minutes from the February meeting were approved by members. Treasurer’s Report- René Moore reported a balance of $3157.52. Spending this month included website costs, storage facility, and Weeks roses. If you purchased a Weeks rose please give her the check.

Garden Maintenance- Deb Wagner reported that maintenance will be done like last year. Each month will need a leader to organize chores to be done that month- spraying, weeding, deadheading, etc. Sign up sheet for volunteer leaders was passed around.

Donna Sapp gave update on Programs and possibilities for the remainder of 2024. Her focus has been to have programming of interest to newer and

Rose Exhibition at NC Arboretum- May 24(set up), May 25-26(exhibition) Flyers have been printed and are ready to distribute starting in April. There
have been some staff changes at the Arboretum.

Pruning of the Red Cross garden started around 3:00 with experienced members showing newer members basics of spring pruning.

Today’s meeting at the American Red Cross classroom was called to order at 2:05pm by President Christine Gum. A quorum was present.

Minutes from the January meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s Report- René Moore reported $4212.70 in account. Chrys Wallen will be assisting René with Treasurer’s duties. Insurance still needs to be paid when 2024 membership list is complete.

2024 Fertilizer order- Ray Bowen reported fertilizer orders are due today and will be delivered in March.

Carolina Mid-Winter meeting- Christine reported a good showing from our
group at the Winston-Salem meeting. Good speakers, food, and socializing!

Rose Exhibition- NC Arboretum May 24(set up), May 25-26 (exhibition) Dianne showed us a sample flyer for distribution. Staples has best price, $150 for 500 copies. *A motion was made by Chrys Wallen to allow up to $200 for Rose Exhibition advertising, motion seconded by Christine Gum, motion carried.*. Volunteer sign up sheet will be available closer to event.

The Greater Greenville Rose Society will be holding a Chemical Safety class on February 26. If interested contact Dianne for more information.

Red Cross Garden- Christine asked for Deb Wagner if anyone could spray dormant oil and fungicide next week. Lynn Sneath volunteered. (Thank you
Lynn!)

Weeks Roses order- Doug Hauschild reported our order was shipped last Thursday or Friday, not sure when it will arrive. Unfortunately no “Julia Child” in order.

Need volunteers to babysit unsold roses until rose sale.
List of roses for purchase was available for members.
Stay tuned for information regarding arrival and pickup of roses

Fertilizer protocol survey- Mary Ann Willingham asked members to fill out a survey regarding fertilizer use in our gardens and return to her via mail by February 28. Results will be shared at April meeting.

Breaks for snacks provided by Martha Bader, Ray and Karen Bowen.

Today’s program “Tools for Gardeners and their Maintenance” by Donna Sapp. Donna gave many tips about essential tools and accessories for taking care of your garden.

Minutes from the November meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s Report- René Moore reported a balance of $4129.30.

Martha Bader reported that she met with Paul Franklin and Mary Ann Willingham to discuss ways to have meetings appeal to all members. Having an “open forum” added to the monthly agenda to discuss roses would help address interests of new and “seasoned” members.

Jim Wilson and Laurie Frarey have resigned from our Society.

Today’s presentation on our Society’s website was given by Marjorie Iles. She walked us through the current website which has not had an update in
5 years. The membership agreed by show of hands that it needs attention and updating but not development of a new website.
Marjorie will continue to look into options, Chrys Wallen and Dianne
Sneath will help.

The Historic Brookstown Inn. Details have been emailed.

The Rose sale and Master Gardener Plant sale has been rescheduled to
